Stumpy’s Hatchet House Headed to Liberty Center I in Erie, Pa.
Indoor Axe-Throwing Venue Inks 5,800-SF Lease at Retail Property
ERIE, Pa., Dec. 19, 2019 – Growing indoor hatchet-throwing franchise Stumpy's Hatchet House is preparing to open a location at Liberty Center I in Erie. The national chain has leased 5,800 square feet at the 230,000-square-foot shopping center, which is exclusively leased and managed by Levin Management Corporation (LMC).
Sherry Bauer, broker/owner of SBRE – Sherry Bauer Real Estate Services, who represents LMC locally, arranged the transaction, assisted by LMC Senior Leasing Representative Sidney Singer. Drew Baldwin of Baldwin Brothers Inc. served as tenant broker.
“Liberty Center I is an ideal location for any tenant; it sits in a major retail corridor and serves as the gateway to the City of Erie,” said Bauer. “Stumpy’s will broaden the center’s appeal and the overall tenant mix while also being a complementary addition to the larger retail community. This indoor axe-throwing experience is a great fit all around.”
At Stumpy’s Hatchet House, participants take turns throwing their hatchet onto a target in a safe, controlled throwing pit. The first Stumpy’s Hatchet House opened in Eatontown, N.J., in 2016 and now serves as the chain’s flagship location and corporate headquarters. In addition to being a fun recreational sport for group outings of all sizes, franchise locations are popular destinations for team-building events, corporate outings, birthday celebrations, bachelor/bachelorette parties, adventure dates, reunions and more.
The new Erie location will have 10 throwing pits and aims to be a social gathering place in the community where patrons can have fun, relax and interact with other groups of players, said Mike Uden, who co-owns the franchise with four business partners. Participants must be age 18 or older; guests can bring their own wine, beer and food. Light snacks will be available for purchase on-site.
“Stumpy’s hashtag is a ‘social throwdown,’ and that perfectly illustrates this concept,” said Uden. “Whether coming with a few friends or hosting a group party, this is something where anyone can participate and will have a great time. The best part is there are no special skills or experience required. Everyone will go through a 20-minute training session with a member of our staff to learn how to hold and throw a hatchet, and review safety rules/procedures.”
Entertainment has long been an element in shopping center tenant mixes, and has grown in prominence and variety in recent years, according to Singer. “Emerging retailtainment concepts like Stumpy’s Hatchet House bring added value to a retail property by providing consumers with the opportunity to shop, dine and have fun all in one convenient location,” he said. “This group of franchisees is comprised of individuals that are entrenched in the Erie community, and they are looking forward to bringing Stumpy’s to this market at Liberty Center I.”
Anchored by supermarket chain Tops Friendly Markets and Peebles department store, Liberty Center I is centrally located at the intersection of Liberty and W. 38th streets, just west of Peach Street. The property also includes Harbor Freight Tools, Dollar Tree, Fred’s Furniture, Luggage Designers, Rent-A-Center, PA Wine & Spirits, PNC Bank, Dickey’s Barbecue Pit and GNC, among others. Supported by exceptional demographics, the property serves a growing residential population of more than 105,000 people within a three-mile radius.
Retail availabilities at Liberty Center I range from 1,400 square feet to 10,000 square feet.
